How to make a Martini drink

The Martini, a classic cocktail

A Martini is a classic cocktail made with gin or vodka and dry vermouth. It is typically garnished with an olive or lemon twist. The traditional method for making a Martini is to stir the ingredients together with ice to chill and dilute them, then strain the mixture into a chilled glass. However, some people prefer to shake their Martinis instead. The ratio of gin or vodka to vermouth can be adjusted to taste, with a traditional Martini having a higher ratio of gin or vodka to vermouth. The Martini is one of the most iconic and enduring cocktails in history, and it has inspired countless variations and adaptations over the years.

Method to make a Martini

  1. Chill a martini glass by filling it with ice and water while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. In a mixing glass or shaker, combine the gin or vodka and vermouth.
  3. Stir or shake with ice until well chilled.
  4. Discard the ice and water from the chilled glass.
  5. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass.
  6. Garnish with a lemon twist or olive, if desired.
Note: The traditional way to make a Martini is to stir it, but you can also shake it, it's a matter of preference. For a dry Martini, use less vermouth, and for a wet Martini use more vermouth.
